In the last 10 years, Rotterdam has turned into one of Europe's most exhilarating cities. After many years of post‐war building and struggle Rotterdam is successfully flourishing again. But how did this come about? Are you as convinced of the merits of architectural design as we are? This course demonstrates and investigates the role of architecture, creative industry and urban design in making (the) city.
And what exactly is this 'Rotterdam approach' which now ranks Rotterdam as an architecture destination in the top of many international lists? What's the impact of being the home base of persevering acupuncture architects as well as international offices like OMA, MVRDV, designed by Erick van Egeraat, KCAP, Studio Roosegaarde, Neutelings Riedijk, West8? Can one feel the energy? Can you feel it?
In this 2-day summer course you will see, visit and meet the forces that create this city, and experience the power of architecture design. We offer you an intensive and exciting course‐en‐route with workshops, reflections, presentations and debates. You will gain entrance to hidden gems, go behind the scenes of iconic projects and visit (st)architecture offices.

What course experience would be complete without being out there in the field?
International Course Rotterdam Architecture IC-RA presents a course for professionals on Rotterdam city themes, forces and architecture. Workshops, lectures, office & project visits and debates are devised on site, with collaborating experts from a wide range of educational organisations, design-practices and clients. Participants get to complete a 2- or 3-day course-en-route through the city.
Themes are gentrification, transformation, innovation and city-branding. All regarded in relation to the strength of architecture design.
IC-RA was founded by Brenda Kamphuis MA, with support from the Municipality of Rotterdam / CityLab010, to provide an outstanding course about Rotterdam architecture as a powerful force in contemporary city building.
